Hazel Dormouse with Berry Pendant
Hazel Dormouse with Berry Pendant
The Hazel Dormouse (Muscardinus avellanarius) is elusive and seriously endangered due to habitat loss, and is now found only in a few areas of the British Isles. With its gingery-brown fur, large black eyes, and long fluffy tail, this small creature spends much of its life asleep, either hibernating.
At night, dormice climb high into trees to forage for hazelnuts, berries, and insects. In autumn, they prepare to hibernate in nests made of grass and leaves, often choosing logs or leaves near the ground to escape the winter cold. Dormice can spend up to three-quarters of the year in some form of sleep.
Here our beloved Dormouse pendant is holding a small berry, ready to whisk away to their nest. This pendant will make a wonderful gift for any nature lover.
